THE CHALLENGE

Namebase is the easiest place to privately buy, sell, or securely manage handshake domains in an open-bidding marketplace. Unlike traditional domain registrars, Namebase offers domain owners true ownership vs. annual leasing. DNS records are on-chain which means they are tamper-proof. And no government or organization can censor handshake domains.

The challenge for Namebase was to design both a professional crypto-asset exchange and also a consumer-level saas app that would allow the layperson to purchase handshake domains.

THE Approach

Simple: make Handshake easy-to-use to enable mass adoption. Period. End of story.

This is complex and this groundbreaking stuff, so our task was straightforward: Create a user experience that both educates a layperson & empowered a power user looking for maximal control during trading of handshake in order to secure a domain.

From the initial airdrop via a Github invite to the professional trading view, a clean and clear user interface was paramount.

Handshake is a decentralized, permissionless naming protocol where every peer is validating and in charge of managing the root DNS naming zone with the goal of creating an alternative to existing Certificate Authorities and naming systems.
